When the house won’t stay warm
A reset might get it running. It won't tell you why it stopped.
No heat, weak airflow, a furnace that keeps short-cycling or won’t hold temperature. Flipping the switch can bring it back for a while, but the part that caused the shutdown is still there. Small faults left alone tend to become bigger repairs, or a cold night with no heat at all.
We test the system, find the cause, and show you what failed and what it costs to fix before we touch anything. If a repair doesn’t make sense on an older furnace, we’ll tell you that too.
Warning signs
Time to book a repair if you notice any of these.
The furnace won't turn on
The thermostat calls for heat and nothing happens. Often an ignition, power, control board or safety switch problem.
It runs, but the air is cool
The fan is blowing but the house never warms up. The burners may not be lighting or staying lit.
It keeps starting and stopping
Short, frequent cycles usually point to an airflow, overheating or flame sensor problem that won’t fix itself.
New or loud noises
Banging, squealing, grinding or a loud boom at startup usually means a part is loose, worn or failing.
A burning or unusual smell
A dusty smell on the first cold day is normal. A smell that sticks around, or anything like burning plastic, needs a look.
A blinking light or tripped breaker
An error code on the furnace, or a breaker that keeps tripping, means a safety control is shutting things down for a reason.

Safety first
Smell gas? Get out first, then call.
If you smell rotten eggs or sulphur, don’t touch light switches, phones or appliances inside. Get everyone out and leave the door open.
From outside, call your gas utility (Enbridge, for example) or emergency services. Once the immediate danger has been dealt with, call us and we’ll come check the furnace.
- Thermostat on "Heat" and set a few degrees above room temperature. Swap the batteries if the screen is blank.
- Filter. A clogged filter can choke airflow enough to shut the furnace down.
- Power. Check the furnace breaker and the on/off switch near the furnace (it looks like a light switch).
- Outside vents. Snow, ice or leaves blocking the white pipes outside will shut a high-efficiency furnace off.
- Drain line. A kinked, blocked or frozen condensate line can trigger a safety shutoff.
Still nothing? That's what we're here for. Please don't open the furnace or bypass any switches. Call us to book an appointment with a certified Markham Heating technician.

Furnace repair questions
How much does a furnace repair cost?
It starts with a diagnostic to find the problem ($149, or $99 if it’s your first time with us). Once we know what failed, we give you the repair price before any work starts. If we make the repair on the same visit, the diagnostic counts as a labour credit: that time goes toward your repair, so you’re never charged twice for the same hour.
Do you offer emergency furnace repair?
Yes. We’re open Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, and offer emergency no-heat service on Saturdays. Call us and we’ll get you on the schedule as soon as we can.
Do you repair furnaces you didn't install?
Yes. We service most makes and models, no matter who installed them. We can process warranty claims with all major manufacturers and source parts for every major brand.
Is it safe to keep running a furnace that's acting up?
If it’s banging, smells like burning, keeps tripping the breaker or your CO alarm has gone off, turn it off and call us. Restarting it over and over can make the problem worse.
Should I repair or replace my furnace?
For most furnaces under 15 years old, a repair is usually the better value. If yours is older and needs a major part, we’ll give you both prices so you can compare.
Do your repairs come with a warranty?
Yes. Every repair carries our standard 45-day repair warranty. Most replacement parts also come with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, and we’ll tell you the exact coverage for your part before we start.
