- Does your furnace filter need to be replaced? A clogged filter is one of the most frequent causes of heating problems. If you haven’t replaced yours in the last three months, it may be restricting airflow enough to affect performance — or trigger a shutdown altogether.
- Has your circuit breaker tripped? Your furnace runs on a dedicated circuit, and breakers can trip without warning. Head to your electrical panel and confirm the breaker controlling your furnace is switched on. If it’s in the middle position, flip it fully off and then back on.
- Do you smell gas or something unusual? If you detect a rotten egg or sulfur-like odour near your furnace, do not touch any switches or appliances. Leave your home immediately, leaving the door open behind you, and call your gas provider and emergency services provider if necessary from outside or a neighbour’s phone — Do not re-enter your home until emergency services give the all-clear.
