Humidifiers Install
Increase Home Comfort with a Whole-Home Humidifier
Dry air is a common problem in Canadian homes — especially during winter months when windows stay shut and heating systems strip moisture from the air. A whole-home humidifier relieves cracked skin, itchy eyes, sore throats, and static electricity, while also protecting your hardwood floors and furniture. At Markham Heating & Air Conditioning, we trust Aprilaire and GeneralAire humidifiers to restore comfort to our clients’ homes.

Humidifier Repairs
If your humidifier isn’t adding moisture or is leaking, our technicians offer professional repair services as well as water panel replacements for most major brands.
Is Your Humidifier Not Working? Check These Items First
Before calling a technician, a few quick checks may save you the cost of a service call.
- Is your humidistat set correctly? Make sure it’s set to a level above your home’s current humidity — typically 35-45% in winter. If it’s set too low, the unit won’t run.
- Is the water supply on? Check that the saddle valve or water supply line feeding the humidifier is open. It can occasionally get bumped closed.
- Is the furnace running? Most whole-home humidifiers only operate when the furnace blower is running. If the furnace isn’t calling for heat, the humidifier may not run even if it’s working correctly.
- When was the water panel last replaced? A clogged or mineral-encrusted water panel is the most common cause of reduced humidifier output. Most manufacturers recommend replacing it once per season.
- Is there a visible water leak? Check the drain line and connections for drips or pooling water. A blocked drain or loose fitting is often the cause.
If you’ve worked through this list and your humidifier still isn’t operating properly, give us a call. Markham Heating and Air Conditioning is ready to help — we service all major brands.
Humidifier Maintenance & Tune-Up
Annual humidifier maintenance keeps your unit operating at peak performance and prevents mineral buildup, leaks, and reduced output. Regular servicing extends equipment life and ensures your home maintains healthy humidity levels all winter long.
When you book a tune-up with Markham Heating and Air Conditioning, a fully licensed technician will inspect and service your humidifier thoroughly. We service all major humidifier brands including Aprilaire and GeneralAire.
Here are a few items covered in our inspection:
| Inspection Item | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Humidistat calibration & operation | Confirms the humidistat is reading correctly and triggering the unit at the right humidity level |
| Water panel inspection | Checks for mineral buildup, damage, or blockage — replaced if needed |
| Water supply line & flow check | Verifies adequate water supply and correct flow rate through the distribution tray |
| Drain line inspection | Checks for blockages, kinks, or buildup that can cause leaks or standing water |
| Solenoid valve operation | Confirms the water valve opens and closes correctly on demand |
| Cabinet & internal components | Inspects housing, distribution tray, and internal parts for corrosion or damage |
| Overall output verification | Confirms the unit is adding adequate moisture relative to its rated capacity |
A full written report of our findings is available after every tune-up, so you always know exactly where your humidifier stands.
Why it matters: Regular tune-ups help catch worn parts before they fail, keep your system running efficiently, and protect against safety risks. Staying current with annual maintenance can also be a requirement for keeping your equipment warranty valid.
