- Is your thermostat set to “Cool”? Make sure it’s switched over from heating mode and set below the current room temperature. If it’s not, your A/C simply won’t turn on.
- Does your air filter need to be replaced? A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons an A/C underperforms or shuts off entirely. If it’s been more than three months, start here.
- Has your circuit breaker tripped? A/C units can trip their breaker — especially at the start of the season. Check your panel and make sure the breaker is fully on. If it’s in the middle position, flip it off and back on.
- Do you notice any unusual smells? A musty odour could point to mold in the unit or ductwork. A burning or electrical smell means turn the system off and call us. A faint sweet or chemical odour may indicate a refrigerant issue — don’t ignore it.
